Boat Fire

September 11, 2016

At 15:46 hours today Station 89 was dispatched for a boat fire at the marina. Marine 89 responded with Deputy 89 in charge and responded to the troubled boat. The onboard Halon fire system put the engine fire out but smoke was still trailing from the vessel. Deputy Chief Walls towwed the boat back to the ramp so we could get in to the engine compartment to confirm the fire is out. Because the fire melted all the electrical wires we had to make forcable entry to the motor area. Once the lid was opened the batterries were disconnected so nothing further would happen. A-89, 89-2, 89-8 and Dnrec responded to the incident. Before Marine 89 got on scene another boater stopped to get the people off the burning boat. Deputy Chief Walls deployed 2 rescue swimmers to retrieve the vessel to be towed to the dock. Good job by all involved.
