Assist on structure fire

January 09, 2015

At 6:48am Sta 89 was dispatched to assist the Milton FD on a fire at the Clean Delaware facility on Isaac Road near Milton. Tanker 89 responded with Asset Chief Engineer 89-21 Keith Bennett driving and Captain Kaleb Hills 89-18 as officer. Engine/Tanker 89-5 followed with South Bowers Deputy Chief Mike Hignutt behind the wheel with Deputy 89 Terry Jester officering. Upon arriving on the scene Tanker 89 supplied Ladder 85 and 89-5 fed Ellendale and Milton's engines. 89-5 crew assisted with Hand lines. One of Lewes FD set up a draft at Isaac Pond and engines from Slaughter Beach, Houston, Farmington, South Bowers, Indian River and Carlisle shuttled water to supply Greenwood's tanker. Around 9:30 Milton Fire Chief JR Clark placed the situation under control. First arriving crews were very lucky cause a propane tank inside the heavy black filled smoke blew and landed about a half a mile in the woods and set the woods on fire. Brush units from Milton and Carlisle handled those fires. No injuries were reported and the cause is being investigated by the State Fire Marshals office. A great job done by all in the frigid cold and strong winds.
