MCI School Bus Accident

On todays date 6/10/2017 Memorial Fire Company had a MCI Mock Drill training involving a school bus that had overturned on a back road in Memorail Fire Companys district. Crews from Memorial Fire Company, South Bowers Fire Company, Carlisle Fire Company, Milton Fire Comapny, Sussex County Emergency Service (SCEMS), Life Net, Delaware State Police Aviation (Trooper 2), Emergency Operations Center, Beebe Hospital, Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital, and the Delaware Tech Paramedic students all were involved in this drill. Special thanks to all the patients that assisted us in the drill and the cubscouts troop 116 for assiting us. The drill took place on Buttonwood road located just off of Wells road in Milford, DE. The drill included a school bus that was turned over on its side and had 25 patients that were placed inside of the bus. Crews from all fire departments worked together to gain access inside of the school bus to remove the patients out of the school bus. After the patients were removed the EMS crews started the triage process and started to classify patients on there priorities. After the triage was finished crews then loaded the patients into BLS units for transport. Some patients were loaded into the back of the aviation units so crews could learn how to approach a aviation unit. After the patients were loaded into the back of the BLS units they were then transported to Beebe and Milford Hospital. Once at the hospitals the nurses then took over patient care and went through the ER process. Special thanks to all the fire departments, SCEMS, aviation units, EOC, all of our patients, Fitzgeralds Auto Salavage, Wadkins Towing, and DEMA for helping is with the drill and to the Memorial Fire Companys lady auxillary for the food and support they provided.
