Winter Storm 2016

Thursday, July 19, 2018
Starting on January 22, 2016, The Memorial Fire a Company of Slaughter Beach has been busy with the Nor'easter/Blizzard. The winds were extremely high which made the snow drift real bad and real hard for our members to get to the station. The wind was out of the east and really pounded the dunes and had a couple of places that breached on the beach. The roads coming into the beach were both flooded and the winds blew in a lot of tree branches, lumber, trash barrels and and even propane tanks. Some of the spots on the road exceeded 4 foot of water. There were some who thought I guess that their vehicle would float thru the water and not get stuck in the way of ours and other emergency vehicles. Our FD responded to several calls in our district plus assisted Bowers FD in evacuating people from their community since they had the same high water that we did. Also went to Primehook a couple of times to bring people off and to secure propane bottles from causing a major issue. We also assisted other FD's with our plows leading the way for our Ambulance or others. Last year we had purchased an Army 5 Ton 6 wheel truck that gives us the capability to run in water over 6 and a half feet deep. We installed a 14 foot plow to push snow which has come in very valuable so far. We have 2 brush trucks with plows that compliment our 5 Ton. Our members spent countless hours at the firehouse working in the cold and snow to assist others. My officers are professional and very knowledgeable of their job. We hope everyone made out well thru this storm. Please stay safe.
