Wind Storm rips through Argos Corner

Friday, February 7, 2020

On Friday February 7, 2020, the Memorial Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched to an Electrical Hazard West of Memorial Station 2 on Slaughter Beach Road. As Ambulance 89 was responding from Memorial Station 1, they drove up on power and cable lines down across the roadway of Slaughter Beach Road and Rutt Road along with a large tree down. A89 advised Sussex of same and provided them with a pole number for Delmarva Power. As the Ambulance crew was investigating, they were advised of an odor of smoke coming from the residence of the downed tree in their yard and power line. Fire Chief Jester was advised of the incident and a response was made by 89-5. Investigation inside the residence confirmed an odor of smoke. At this time, Chief Jester upgraded the alarm which alerted the Milton Fire Department along with the Ellendale Fire Company. Investigation by Memorial EMTs/Firefighters revealed a power surge to an interior heater which caused the odor. The residence was checked by a TIC and CO meter with negative readings. Incident was placed under control and units were returned. A89 remained at the scene until the arrival of Delmarva Power and DelDot.

Units Responded: A89, 89-5 and Tanker 89
